McCoy’s seventh inning single taps out Taylor
Having been mauled 14-0 by Madisonville in their District 18-3A opener, the Rockdale Lady Tigers could not afford to open league play with back-to-back losses.
Emily McCoy made sure of that, drilling a single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning to tame Taylor 7-6 Tuesday night at the Softball Complex. Full Story

He’s doing just fine now, but it’s hard to believe that its been almost a year ago, since Devin Patin suffered a career threatening and possible life threatening injury.

Rockdale Athletic Director Jeff Miller has released the Rockdale’s 2014 football schedule and despite the fact that the Tigers have dropped down in class and are housed with a new group of teams, there are plenty of familiar faces on the ledger. Full Story

Playing in a district that features two of the top ranked teams in the state, no one can afford to get off to a poor start.
The Rockdale Tigers lost an early lead but regained it just in the nick of time with a run in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 district opening victory over rival Taylor Tuesday night.

Lady Eagles continue to roll through district play
Thorndale evens league record with victory Tuesday
The Milano Lady Eagles continue to roll through District 27A play, as they hosted Snook on Tuesday night and run ruled them in four and a half innings 19-6.
Cashlyne Blake tossed the win for the Lady Eagles, going four innings and fanning three Lady Jay batters. Full Story

Milano graduate Ashleigh Dykes was a member of the University of Texas at Tyler basketball team that advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA’s Division III national championship tournament. Full Story
Aggie moms tee up for scholarship golf
The Milam County Aggie Moms Club will host its second annual scholarship golf tournament Saturday, March 22, at the Rockdale Country Club.
The 4-man scramble tournament will have two tee times; 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will include carts and lunch.
Entry fee is $60 per player. There will be contests, silent auction and more. Full Story
5th annual Milano alumni softball Mar. 22
MILANO—The 5th annual Milano Alumni Baseball/ Softball tournament will be held Saturday, March 22.
Hamburgers, hot dogs and other great Booster Club concessions will be available.
Registration is at 8 a.m. and the first game will be at 9 a.m. The fee is $20 per person and that includes a T-shirt. Full Story
Crawford shatters junior high marks
Jaqualyn Crawford shattered two Rockdale Junior High track records at the Rockdale Relays.
The 8th grader broke the record in the triple jump with a leap of 40-9 and the other in the 400-meter dash with a clocking of 52.08.
Crawford broke Davion Ford’s 2013 triple jump record of 40-7 1.2 and Tyrone Jackson’s 25-year old 400 record of 53.53 set in 1989. Full Story
Milano drops a pair in district play
The Milano Eagles dropped a 17-1 decision to Georgetown Gateway on Tuesday to fall to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in District 26A play.
Josh Lewis led the Eagles with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate.
On Thursday, Milano fell 5-3 to Granger at home. David Jentsch pitched the loss, striking out six batters. Full Story

Tigers losing two coaches to Brewer
Rockdale is losing two coaches, Mike Dunn and Robert Jones, who are both heading for Class 5A Brewer High School.
Both have been in Rockdale less than a year.
Dunn, 29, was the Tigers’ defensive coordinator and Jones, 30, the Tiger boys track coach and defensive backs coach. Full Story
4-Star summer track registration March 23
LEXINGTON—Registration for the 4-Star summer track club is slated for Sunday, March 23.
It will be held at the Lexington track from 3 to 5 p.m. for kids aged 6 through 18.
Registration fee is $100 per child.
