2014 slate set

Tigers will continue to play larger schools

Rockdale Athletic Director Jeff Miller has released the Rockdale’s 2014 football schedule and despite the fact that the Tigers have dropped down in class and are housed with a new group of teams, there are plenty of familiar faces on the ledger.

Rockdale’s pre-district slate includes Smithville, Taylor, Salado, Caldwell and Madisonville—all teams the Tigers faced last season.

All those teams are in Class 4A with the exception of Salado.

The Tigers open the season at home against Smithville on August 28 which will be senior night.

Homecoming is scheduled for Oct. 3 when Madisonville comes for a visit.

The Hall of Honor game is set for the final game of the season, Nov. 7 against Florence.

Rockdale opens District 10-3A play in a big way by travelling to Cameron for the 60th annual Battle of the Bell.

District 10-3A includes Cameron, Lago Vista, Academy, Troy and Florence.

Rockdale has never faced Florence or Lago Vista and had played Troy twice and Academy once in 1932.

Three of the Tigers’ five district games are on the road.

The Tigers’ open date is Sept. 19.

Rockdale scrimmages Giddings on August 15 and Robinson on Aug. 21.
