Reporter/Bill Martin Having been mauled 14-0 by Madisonville in their District 18-3A opener, the Rockdale Lady Tigers could not afford to open league play with back-to-back losses.

Emily McCoy made sure of that, drilling a single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning to tame Taylor 7-6 Tuesday night at the Softball Complex.

The Lady Tigers lifted themselves to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in district play.

After Taylor tied the score 6-6 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, Rockdale lined out three times in the bottom of the sixth.

The Lady Ducks (1-9, 0-2) left two runners stranded in their half of the seventh when relief pitcher Maci Wages struck out two batters to stem the tide.

Rockdale took advantage of one last at-bat as Alyssa Wallis singled to right and moved to second on a passed ball.

After Desiree Rich drew a walk, McCoy ripped a single up the middle to score Wallis with the game winner.

McCoy sparked the Lady Tigers’ 15-hit attack, going 3-for-5 with a single, double and triple.

Wallis (3 RBI) and Lauren Locklin also collected three hits apiece

Wages picked up the victory in relief of McCoy with two innings of work.

Rockdale jumped on Taylor early, crossing the plate four times in the first on an RBI single from Locklin, a sacrifice fly from Wages and a two-run double from Wallis.
