Ministerial Alliance sets Holy Week luncheons, Easter sunrise service

Rockdale Ministerial Alliance has announced the following schedule for the Alliancesponsored community-wide Easter services:

• Holy Week luncheons Monday through Friday, April 14-18, at 11:50 a.m. in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church. These offer light lunches, special music and brief devotionals by local clergy.

• Easter Sunrise Service, 7 a.m. Sunday, April 20 at Wolf Park (downtown Rockdale). Rev. Jack Chelf, pastor of First Baptist Church, will be the speaker. Music will be provided by Newfound Life Worship Center.

Spring Fling April 12

Cowgirls by Grace will present Shannon Perry during the Milam County Cowboy Church’s annual Spring Fling from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12. Perry is a speaker, recording artist, author and radio host.

Tickets are $5 and include lunch. For reservations, call 512- 760-6282. All area women are invited. Childcare will be available.

Hospitality Day Saturday

Meadowbrook Baptist Church will host a Hospitality Day on Saturday, April 5 in fellowship hall beginning at 8 a.m. and concluding at 11 a.m.

During Hospitality Day, members of Meadowbrook want to give away gently used items to anyone in our community. “Everyone is invited to come and take items free of charge,” said Rev. Russ Willis, pastor.

Meadowbrook cantatas

Meadowbrook Baptist Church will celebrate the Easter season with mini-cantatas on Palm Sunday, April 13, and on Easter Sunday, April 20, both at 11 a.m.

“The public is cordially invited to hear these beautiful musical presentations,” said Rev. Russ Willis, pastor.

St. Thomas Episcopal

St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Rev. Pam Graham, vicar, will have Evening Prayer with Holy Eucharist on Wednesday, April 8, followed by a light supper and discussion of the book Lent is Not Rocket Science.

RSBC revival April 8-10

Rising Star Baptist Church spring events:

• Saturday, April 5 at noon, Ladies Luncheon and Fashion Show. All girls and women invited. Admission $5. Coordinators, Georgia Zamora and Joyce Ford.

• Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 7 p.m. April 8-10, RSBC revival. Evangelist, Pastor Kevin Nelson, San Antonio. Music each night by local choirs and RSBC Music Ministry. Public invited.

• Garden of Hope spring planting day 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 18. Bring vegetable seeds and plants.

• Saturday, April 12, Family Fun Day, 5 to 8:30 p.m. Everyone invited.

• Sunday, April 20 at 11 a.m., Easter Sunday morning worship and special music by RSBC Music Ministry.

Men’s breakfast

An ecumenical monthly men’s Christian fellowship breakfast is held from 7 until 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, the site rotating between several local churches.

Next breakfast will be Tuesday, April 11 at First Presbyterian Church. Purpose is Christian fellowship and all men of the area are invited.

Adams book sale

Between 5,000 and 10,000 books, owned by the late Carrie Adams, are now on sale at Calvary Baptist Church, according to Rev. Leslie Adams, pastor.

“They are in good shape and include a number of first editions,” he said. Anyone wanting to look at the books may call Rev. Adams at 512-446-0752,” he said. “I’m here just about all the time.”

Spring Festival April 26

First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Alcoa Avenue, will hold a Spring Festival from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26 on the church grounds, with games and music for children of all ages.

An $8 ticket will include fried chicken strips, tater tots, pickle, cookies, water or tea. Funnel cakes will be sold for $2. FPC women will sell baked goods and craft items. Tickets can be purchased by calling the church on Tuesdays at 512-446-5987.

Other FPC events: April 8, Memorial Garden work day; April 15, Women of the Church meet at Rachael Lopez home for Bible study; April 17, Maundy Thursday service, 7 p.m.; April 18, Good Friday service, 7 p.m.; April 20, Easter service, 10:30 a.m. followed by children’s Easter egg hunt in the Garden.

Rockdale Christian Services thrift store, Heavenly Treasures, serving the needy at 233 North Main Street, is staffed with volunteers from RCS member churches. Assignments are:

Women on Mission

Women on Mission of First Baptist Church in Rockdale met for Bible study March 28 in the Family Life Center. The study continued with the Sermon on the Mount: “Fasting/Spiritual Food.” Elaine Simpson led the study.

The program opened with the missionary song “From Greenland’s Icy Mountains.” Attending were Jane Darwin, Laura Gary, Barbara Clark, Faye Simpson, Elaine Simpson, Dolores Sonntag, Mary L. Morgan and Elaine Holliman.—Elaine Simpson, reporting for Jane Robinson
