Former Thorndale resident named ‘ginner of the year’


Turner Turner Jeff Turner, a native of Thorndale has been honored as the Texas Cotton Ginners Association’s Ginner of the Year.

When Turner graduated f rom high school, he wa nt ed to work for a year to save money. He wanted to become a surgeon. During that year he was asked to fill in as a local grain co-op’s manager and that in turn became a 32 year career in the grain and cotton business.

He has also studied at Kennedy-Western University and is a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Sea School and is a Master Captain in the United States Merchant Marines.

Turner served as CEO and general manager Raymondville’s Willacy Co- op Gin from 1998 to 2007. He is currently the CEO and general manager of Glasscock County Co-Op Gin in Garden City.

He is the son of H.D. and Rosalie Turner of Thorndale. Turner was honored Wednesday at the TCGA awards dinner in Lubbock, with his wife Sandy and many of his employees there to savor the very special moment.
