A couple who helped change the face of the city—with numerous developments and business ventures over the past four decades—died Saturday morning in a four-vehicle collision on US 79 east of town that also seriously injured two Milano residents. Full Story
Blood drive set Sunday at St. Paul’s
A Scott & White Bloodmobile will be on the campus of St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Thorndale from 8 a.m. to 12-noon Sunday.
All donors will receive coupons for food items and a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card and barbecue grill donated by Home Depot.

Isn’t the bowl of a water tower supposed to be on top? Yes, and sometime within the next few weeks that’s going to be the case with Rockdale’s new northwest tower on Allday street. Landmark Structures is building the bowl at the bottom of the completed pedestal and will raise it to the top as one unit with a crane. Full Story
Site visit final task for board
Superintendent search nears end
Pending one visit, and one board meeting, Rockdale ISD trustees have essentially made a decision on who they want for the district’s new superintendent.

‘Mr. Habitat’ to visit 5th Nature Fest
Fair Park site for naturalists annual event
A well known environmental troubadour, whose approach has been called “Smokey the Bear meets Chuck Berry,” will highlight the El Camino Master Naturalists’ fifth annual Nature Fest April 11-12 at Fair Park.
Bill Oliver will be at the park both days in the latest edition of an event that’s drawn huge crowds to the park the past three years. Full Story
Relay For Life set Saturday
Things are a little revamped for this year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life event, but it still serves the same purpose— to raise money to help cure cancer.
This year’s event, with the theme “Mission Possible: Milam County,” will start at noon on Saturday at Apache Pass, located off FM 908, approximately eight miles north of Rockdale. Full Story

The biggest ovation of Thursday’s Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Banquet was reserved for longtime volunteer Linda Crane (center, front), who received a spontaneous ‘standing O’ as her name was announced as Honorary Citizen of the Year. That’s the award which honors longtime service. Full Story
