National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

The Thorndale Police Department is campaigning to bring awareness to the public about the dangers of texting and driving.

Thorndale Poli ce are launching their “LOOK UP!” campaign for National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration’s “National Distracted Driving Awareness Month”.

The education effort by of ficers of the Thorndale Police Department includes all forms of distracted driving. We want to remind you while you’re driving don’t text and drive, just put your phone aside. Your call or text can wait.

Distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primar y task of driving. All distractions endanger drivers, passengers, and bystanders safety. These types of distractions include:

• Texting

• Using a cell phone or smartphone

• Eating and drinking

• Talking to passengers

• Grooming

• Reading, including maps

• Using a navigation system

• Watching a video

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
