Major show tags

Deadline for ordering steer tags for 2014-15 major livestock shows is Tuesday, April 14. The cost for 2014- 2015 Texas 4-H/FFA Steer Validation tags is $12 per tag. Any tags ordered past the deadline through June 20 will be $25 per tag. These tags are required to exhibit a steer at the 2014 State Fair of Texas, 2015 Fort Worth Livestock Show, 2015 San Angelo Livestock Show, 2015 San Antonio Livestock Show, 2015 Star of Texas Livestock Show, or 2015 Houston Livestock Show. The validation tag will also serve as a validation for Milam County Junior Livestock Show.

The deadline for ordering 2014 State Fair of Texas Lamb & Goat tags is Tuesday, April 14. The cost for 2014-2015 Texas 4-H/FFA SFOT Lamb/Goat Validation tags is $12 per tag. Any tags ordered past the deadline through June 20 will be $25 per tag. These tags are required to exhibit a lamb or goat at the 2014 State Fair of Texas.

The deadline for ordering 2014 State Fair Swine Tags is April 14. The cost of the 2014 Texas 4-H/FFA SFOT Swine Validation tags is $12 per tag. These tags are required to exhibit a swine at the 2014 State Fair of Texas.

Please make checks payable to Milam ELAB. Please remember, parent or legal guardian must be present at the validation to sign paperwork. If they cannot be present, they must let me know in advance and sign all paperwork, plus an additional form, before we can validate an animal. Additionally, payment must accompany all orders. Rockdale Fair rules

The Rockdale Fair animal rules and entry form are posted on the Extension http://milam.agrilife.org/. There are changes in the 2014 rules so make sure you read the rules and auction guidelines completely. All entry money, along with turkey and broiler order money is payable to the Rockdale Fair Association.

Here is a summary of important entry deadlines:

• April 21—Turkey orders due (cost $4.91 per turkey, minimum of five birds per entry).

• April 21—Broiler orders due (cost $1.62 per broiler, minimum of 25 birds per entry).

• May 15—Steer tag-in.

• July 12—Lamb, swine and goat tag-in.

• Sept. 10—Rabbit entry.

State photo contest

During the State 4- H Roundup in June, senior 4-Hers have the opportunity to enter photos. The photos must first be entered for the county contest by April 11. The first place entry in each of the divisions will be submitted to the state contest. All entries must be submitted in the format required for the state contest. A 4-Her is limited to one entry per category for the county contest.

Horse validation

4-Hers wanting to enter the District and State 4-H Horse Show must complete the Horse Validation information between March 1 and May 1. Don’t wait until the last minute because there is no late validation.

Click on 2014 State 4-H Horse Show to get the validation information and State Horse Show guidelines. District Horse Show rules will be available soon on the county website. 4-Hers participating in the district show will have the opportunity to enter the state contest.
