I was with the group that went to Austin to the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration in 2011 and asked for and subsequently received a $1 million grant for the complex.
As a member of the Cameron Economic Development Board I voted to approve the issuance of $1.5 million in bonds to build this complex. We in essence committed the lion’s share of our half- cent economic development sales tax to this project for the next 20 years. The Cameron Economic Development Board, has purchased 50 acres as the site. F rontage has been platted into several 2-acre business sites to accommodate new businesses.
Now Cameron ISD has incorporated the high school baseball field into the complex plan to help move the project forward as well as to take advantage of the site and infrastructure that will be available.
This will bring regular tournaments and playoff events to town.
This will mean increased sales tax revenue for city and county governments, and more sales for existing businesses as well.
Yes, there is risk, but that’s always a part of doing business. We’ve been stuck in the economic rut long enough, let’s do something about it. email@example.com
