UFO buzzes hospital?
Well, not really, and there are a couple of clues if you look closely. First, the ‘UFO’ is about as aerodynamic as a 1972 Volvo. And the 160-foot-tall construction crane (right) just might have given away what was really happening. Good Friday will be a holiday for many, but not all, in the Rockdale area.
School is out Friday in the Rockdale, Thorndale and Milano ISDs.
It’s a half day holiday at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Thorndale and in the Gause ISD with noon releases. Full Story
Council mulls compromise on HOT taxes
Cameo facade preservation grant being sought from MDD by owner
Rockdale’s city council shifted the hotel-motel tax (HOT) funds compromise, forged by recent Chamber of Commerce-Municipal Development District talks, to a future workshop session during Monday’s council session.
But it still turned out to be the “800-pound gorilla in the room” f or some other agenda items. Full Story

Pflugerville exec is ‘lone finalist’
A Pflugerville ISD administrator looking to work in “a district I could call home” is on track to become the new superintendent in Rockdale.
Denise Monzingo was designated the “lone finalist” for the position Thursday in a unanimous vote of Rockdale ISD trustees in the Central Administration Building. Full Story
Wolf Park to host Sunrise service
Final Holy Week luncheon Friday
Rockdale’s annual Easter Sunrise Service, sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance, will be held downtown for the first time on Sunday.
The service begins at 7 a.m. in the Wolf Park Pavilion.

Williamson eyes small Alcoa parcel
GEORGETOWN—Williamson County Commissioners have begun preliminary negotiations with Alcoa over a 180-acre tract of land in Lee County.
It’s viewed as a potential source of groundwater for the Austin Metro Area County, which has been high on the list of the nation’s fastest-growing counties for years. Full Story
Their Dewberry Run T-shirts lit by the twilight glow of the just-set sun, children in the kids 1K head out on the Rockdale Country Club golf course Saturday evening. It was the first night run in the event’s history. The 5K run/walk was held an hour later, in the dark. The run rasied $7,100 for sorority projects. More photos, results, page 4B. Full Story
