Milano Jamboree coming up Saturday

MILANO—The monthly Milano Junction Jamboree will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26 in the Milano Civic Center featuring country and gospel music.

“Admission is free and everyone is invited,” said Tena Galbreath, spokesperson. “We invite musicians and performers and, of course, listeners,” she said. Refreshments will be served.

Legion sets concealed handgun license class

Rockdale American Legion Carlyle Post 358 will sponsor a Concealed Handgun License class at its Post Home just north of Rockdale on FM 487.

The class will be taught by Jonathon Key, certified weapons instructor. Training will consist of four hours of classroom training and two hours practicing and qualifying on a pistol range, all on the post property.

Music Week to offer May 4 concert at Kay

Matinee Musical Club will host an afternoon of music for the community on Sunday, May 4 from 3 until 5 p.m. in the historic Kay Theater downtown.

Music will be provided by the Communities in Concert Band, Matinee members and Academie Mariachi de Temple, a 15-member group of high school students from Temple ISD under the direction of Lee Thomason of Rockdale and Bert Harbison, guitar teacher.

Light refreshments will be served. The May 4 event is a part of the Matinee Club’s annual celebration of National Music Week.

Retired teachers to meet Thursday

Milam County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24 in the Thorndale ISD board room for the annual combined meeting with Williamson

County RTA.

Speaker will be State Rep. Marsha Farney. Lunch will follow at Downtown Cafe. FMI: Alma Lue Wenzel, 254-605-4009.

Scholarships—Milam RTA has scholarships available for classroom teachers who are seeking to be certified in another or different discipline. These teachers must have graduated from a Milam County High School. FMI: Alma Lue Wenzel, 254- 605- 4009, 708 E. 10th Street, Cameron TX 76520.

Sunshine quilters to meet Thursday

Sunshine ‘n Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 24 in fellowship hall of Meadowbrook Baptist Church.

Thorndale bake sale set Saturday on Main Street

THORNDALE—The Town and Country Club of Thorndale will host a bake sale on Saturday April 26 on Main Street near the Thorndale Chamber of Commerce building. Members will be selling cakes, pies, cookies, coffee and lemonade.

Holcombe scholarship

Applications are being accepted for the Christine Holcombe Memorial Scholarship, according to spokesperson Deborah Kostroun. Funds for this scholarship were raised at the Mardi Gras Bash held in March.

Applicants must have completed at least one year of college and must be a former Milam County resident or have graduated from a Milam County high school. Applications are due by June 15.

Grief support group
