MILAM COUNTY T.R.I.A.D.

SHL had Milam County connections
Ted Hubert

The 15th Texas Si lver Haired Legislature’s legislative session ended May 2 and had several Milam County connections.

Jamie Larson and Ted Hubert are members of both the TSHL and the MCT.

Lynn Barnett, 1985 Milano High School graduate, took his ROTC Honor Guard from Waller High School to present the colors for the opening session.

Larson is serving his first term in the TSHL but, as a freshman, he was asked to take the job of editor the Texas Silver-Haired Legislator’s directory.

This was a huge responsibility which he took in stride. The content of the directory was arranged according to each Area Agency on Aging (AAA) which included the pictures of each member. This feature had not been done before.

TSHL Speaker, Pat Porter, recognized visitors which included Ted’s wife, Thurla Hubert, Jamie’s wife Susan Larson and mother Doyce Larson.

Jamie’s wife, Susan is also a member of the Milam County TRIAD’s SALT Council. The TSHL and the MCT organizations serve the senior citizens of Texas, so all older Texans should know their needs are noticed and resolutions were written with the hopes that solutions to identified problems the elderly face will be passed into law by the elected Representatives and state senators serving the great state of Texas.

Resolutions which the TSHL body passed will be published in the Legislative Repor t.

The resolutions were prioritized through a three vote procedure and the top 10 are listed in the front.

State legislators wi l l receive the report in late July or August.

The important news, for Texans over 65 years of age and older, is that you are the beneficiaries of these efforts, if the addressed issues become law. You will be kept in the loop. Your help is needed.

In the coming weeks you will be informed.

Milam County TRIAD is putting the Senior Expo together with the help of local experts in their respective fields.

It could not be done nor would it be successful without them.
