Denise Monzingo didn’t wait long to start earning her paycheck as the new Rockdale ISD superintendent.
Thursday she was formally hired in a unanimous vote of the Rockdale ISD board of trustees.
By Friday afternoon she was officially posting a major administrative vacancy as the district begins its search for a new high school principal. Full Story
Apache Pass was the site of a Tough Mudder competition that drew 14,000 participants from all over the United States on Saturday and Sunday. The 10-to-12-mile event isn’t billed as a fun run—it has obstacles designed to challenge the fittest participants—but obviously it was a great deal of fun for most participants, especially those who don’t mind a little mud. A 33-year-old Milano man became Milam County’s second traffic fatality in less than a week Monday night when his pickup was in collision with an 18-wheeler on Texas 36 just inside the Milam- Burleson County line.

Oldest cemetery ‘coming back to life’
Rockdale’s oldest cemetery—which includes graves of Civil War veterans and a victim of the 1888 Mundine Hotel fire—is getting a “sprucing up” from a joint effort by local volunteers and the City of Rockdale. Full Story
Busy school year ending in Rockdale

PULLING TOWARD THE END—
A sure sign that school is into its final full month is the Rockdale Elementary School’s annual field day which was held Friday at Tiger Field and on the school campus. Traditional final event is the tug-of-war which always draws the loudest cheers and the maximum effort. Full Story
