Tourism committee waits to see council’s decision
The City of Rockdale Tourism Committee met Tuesday and reflected a “wait and see” attitude on whether it will continue its existence.
The joint Chamber of Commerce-Municipal Development District proposal to hire a permanent tourism director currently recommends the committee be dissolved.
Members noted that any full-time tourism director probably wouldn’t be hired until after the city’s fiscal year begins Oct. 1.
The proposal is an agenda item for the city council session set for 5:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
The committee accepted the report on the 2014 Tejas Festival which indicated 19 motel room nights in Rockdale were booked as a result of the activity.
