Monthly food bank visit ahead Thursday

The Capital Area Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry will hold its monthly distribution in Rockdale at 9 a.m. Thursday in the KC Hall parking lot, according to Denise Sifuentes, spokesperson.

“Since the distribution relies totally on volunteer help, volunteers will be needed and greatly appreciated,” she said.

Distributions are held the third Thursday of each month and clients are asked to bring sacks, boxes or other containers to collect groceries.

Rockdale school board to gather on Monday

Reports on the schoolbased clinic and TAKS scores retests will be agenda items for Rockdale ISD trustees when they meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the Central Administration Building.

Other items include reorganization of the school board and the district safety and security audit.

Milano trustees set to meet Thursday evening

MILANO—School trustees for Milano ISD are set to meet in regular session on Thursday at the high school library. Start time is set for 7 p.m.

Agenda items include procurement of design professional for the district’s construction projects, hear a presentation from the City of Milano, authorize sale of surplus real property and administer oaths of office to board members Edward Westbrook and Jay Willingham (neither drew opposition for their seats and were therefore re-elected earlier this month).

Water tower ‘raising’ scheduled for May 21st

Landmark Construction will raise the “bowl” of Rockdale’s new northwest water tower on Allday Street on May 21, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.

“That’s weather permitting, of course,” he said.

Landmark should begin raising the bowl at 7 a.m. and the project will take four to six hours, he said.

Old Cemetery cleanup work day ahead May 24

A cleanup of Rockdale’s Old City Cemetery sponsored by the Milam County Historical Commission, is set for May 24.

Denice Doss, spokesperson said pruning bushes, raking, moving limbs and moving dirt will be a part of the cleanup.

“Members of the community are encouraged to come out and help as plans begin to renovate this location of history,” she said.

“High school students are invited to come out and help with this project, with a reminder that community service is always a good activity for scholarship applications, resumes and club membership requirements,” Doss said.

The cemetery is located across the railroad tracks from the I&GN Historical Depot.

Troopers investigate Rockdale area crashes

State troopers were called to three vehicle accidents during the past week in the Rockdale area.

Trooper J. C. Adams said a vehicle operated by Lorens Salomon, 28, of Cameron was in collision with a hog at 12:18 a.m. Friday on FM 2095 near CR 239.

He said minor damages were reported.

A two-vehicle crash on a private road near CR 403 was investigated at 11:15 a.m. Saturday by Trooper Brooks.

He listed the drivers as Martha McQueen, 65, of Buckholts and Sonya Schafer,

39, of Pendleton.

No injuries and minor to moderate damages were reported.

Trooper Erik Gaston said moderate damage was reported in a one-vehicle crash at 1:20 a.m. Sunday on FM 908 near County Road 428.

He said the driver, Coleman Wiederhold, 27, of Caldwell, swerved to miss a deer.
