2 arrested after man severely beaten at home
Fractured skull, multiple staples result of attack
A 42-year-old Rockdale man awakened to being beaten with a baseball bat, and choked by two pers0ns early Sunday, according to police.
That resulted in serious injuries and led to the arrests of two Caldwell men, according to Rockdale Police Lt. J. D. Newlin, who said there had been more incidents leading up to the beating, which occurred at a Travis Street home. Full Story
City rejects compromise on HOT tax; costs cited
Tourism Committee survives, will make funding decisions
A split Rockdale City Council on Monday rejected the compromise on administering hotel motel tax funds (HOT) crafted last month by the Chamber of Commerce and Municipal Development District.
Vote was 3-2 to leave HOT funds administration decisions in the hands of the city’s Tourism Committee. Full Story
Thorndale incumbents ‘win some, lose some’ at polls on Saturday
None of the action was in Rockdale, but it was still an exciting school and municipal election day in Milam County on Saturday.
Thorndale voters turned in split decisions in both school and city races, ousting an incumbent school trustee and a city council member, but keeping one trustee and two councilmen. Full Story

Baccalaureate set for Sunday at local church
Rockdale High School graduating seniors will gather for the 2014 Baccalaureate Service, set for 2 p.m Sunday at Peace Lutheran Church.
Rev. Ed Truelson, Peace Lutheran Pastor, will deliver the sermon.

Rain! Lightning too
It was a treat for Rockdale residents to have a really good rain overnight Monday, but kind of tricky, too.
Why the Halloween references?
Because the last time Rockdale got a bigger rain than the 2.15 inches which fell Monday and early Tuesday was when 2.43 inches were recorded on Halloween, 2013.

It wasn’t your basic cleanup problem when this 18-wheeler had two giant concrete slabs slide off as it attempted to negotiate the US 77-US 79 off ramp into town at 2:05 p.m. last Wednesday (May 7). Police and firefighters were called out initially and then special equipment from McCoy Trucking was required to assist at the scene. Full Story
