Final Maggie Schneider benefit set for May 24th

Dear editor,

May 24 there will be a tribute to Maggie Schneider at the Thorndale Firemen’s Hall.

On July 5, 1996, Cheryl and I had a little girl who we named “Maggie.” She was born premature, due to an internal hernia, and had to have emergency surgery when she was only four hours old.

She only weighed 4 pounds, 3 ounces, but was a fighter. She lost her fight and went to our Lord and Savior Dec. 14, 1996.

So many helped us through this very tough time in our lives with money, thoughts and prayers.

We decided to repay what had been given to us by having benefit team ropings to raise money for underprivileged children, scholarships and families in need.

These raised over $100,000 for many different people.

We also donated many padded glider rockers to the NCIU at Scott & White, Temple, where Maggie was born.

The first two years the Thorndale VFD sponsored on the cause. On the third year they decided to give their own scholarship in Maggie’s memory.

Maggie would have graduated Thorndale High School this year. I made a commitment that we would raise money until the year she would graduate and we are here.

Thanks to all who supported and sponsored our benefit the past 18 years.

There will be a team roping May 18 at the Joey and Phyllis Hiney Arena in Thorndale.

The dinner-dance at Firemen’s Hall May 24 will feature Kenny Orts and the No Chance Band with proceeds going to the TVFD. (Ever though we will no longer be giving a scholarship, the TVFD will continue with their Maggie’s Scholarship.)

I can’t think of a better way to repay our thanks than to raise money for our firemen, who are wanting to build a new fire station and can use equipment.

To-go plate serving starts at 5 with serving in the hall beginning at 6. We will serve smoked Boston butt, noodles, beans and potato salad with all the trimmings.

Buddy Johnson will assist in a live auction at 8 p.m. Wayne Fisher of Rockdale is building a wooden picnic table as top auction item. A Colt- 45 Henry Big Boy will be awarded in a fund raiser.

Advance tickets are on sale at Rodenbeck Farm & Ranch, Thorndale Meat Market, Downtown Cafe and BS Tire in Thorndale.

In Rockdale contact Becky’s Sandwiches or Elvis McQuinn, 512-577- 5715.

For questions or suggestions call me at 512-898- 1800 or 512-760-8689.
