S&W blood drive set Sunday at St. Paul’s

THORNDALE—Scott & White will hold a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 12-noon Sunday in the parking lot of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School.

Spokesperson Teresa Ging said signup charts for pre-registration are available but walk ins are welcome and signing up is not necessary.

Blood donors are entered for a prize drawing for a shirt quilt.

Donors receive a free T-shirt and coupon for Mr. Gatti’s in Taylor.

Movie casting call Tuesday in Rockdale

Sarah Dowling Casting will hold an open casting call for the movie “American Honey” from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Patterson Center.

Young men and women ages 16 to 24 are needed. Multiple roles are being cast.

Three draw sentences in 20th District Court

CAMERON—20th District court case dispositions last week were:

• Dylon Wayne Caffey, 22, Rockdale, probation revoked on original possession of controlled substance (2-4 grams) charge, four-year state jail term, probation revoked on original forgery charge, twoyear state jail term.

• Dedrick D. Goldsby, 37, Cameron, evading arrest with prior, three-day county jail term, $750 fine.

• Nathan Andrew Willingham, 28, Bryan, prohibited substance in correctional facility, probation revoked, two-year prison term.

Facade upgrade still sought for ‘Cameo’

Owner of the Cameo Insurance has again applied to the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) for a facade improvement grant.

But this time it’s not for ornate 125-year-old facade facing Cameron Avenue (US 79). That’s coming down.

“When the front and back of the Cameo come down the MDD board feels the interior would then be considered the exterior,” Kara Clore, MDD manager, said. “It would qualify as a facade.”

Clore said the board tabled the request until all legal issues are cleared.

RISD trustees accept three resignations

Rockdale ISD trustees accepted three resignations Thursday as follows:

• Erica Saegert, fourth grade teacher.

• Rebecca Geletka, RHS technology.

• Tricia Harwell, Burleson-Milam Special Services.

MISD trustees hear contract update

MILANO—School board members at Milano ISD held a special session on Friday evening prior to commencement ceremonies to hear an update on contract negotiations with Architects Rabe+Partners, working together on MISD’s new facilities effort.

Nicholas Morehead was hired as a secondary social studies teacher and coach and Chrystie Butler as an elementary teacher, according to Supt. Robert Westbrook.

Voter registration available at festival

BUCKHOLTS—Voter registration, for residents of all Texas counties will be available Saturday at the Buckholts Cotton Festival.

A voter table will be open until after lunch, Karen Clark, spokesperson, said.

Milano hosting GMA meeting on Friday

MILANO—Five area groundwater conservation districts will gather in the Milano Civic Center at 10 a.m. Friday for a Groundwater Management Area 12 session.

Those districts are the Post Oak Savannah, Fayette County, Lost Pines, Mid-East Texas and Brazos Valley GCDs.

Agenda items include groundwater-surface water interaction report, the state water plan and improvements to current aquifer models.
