Karl takes professional debut

Ryan Karl Ryan Karl EL PASO—Welterweight Ryan “Cowboy” Karl made a successful debut with a second-round stoppage of Wilbert Mitchell.

The former amateur star from Milano was aggressive from the opening bell and overwhelmed Mitchell before the fight was stopped with a minute left in the second round.

The match was set for four rounds at the Stout Fitness Center in front of 1,500 fans.

“I was a bit nervous before the fight, but I got in there and felt good,” Karl said. “It was a tough fight but I stayed patient. I just have to keep learning and growing. This is a great first step.”

Karl had his original professional debut postponed April 18 in San Antonio when his opponent was injured.
