Scheduled starting quarterback Dylan McCartney injured his right knee Friday night in the Tigers’ scrimmage with Giddings and will most likely miss some early action.

Mitchell narrows field to five
Rockdale basketball star Wendell Mitchell has narrowed his choices to where he will play college basketball to five schools.
Baylor, Auburn, Kansas St., SMU and Texas Tech have been designated as Mitchell’s top five.
Baylor was the first school to offer Mitchell a scholarship, which opened a floodgate of offers from schools from all over the nation. Full Story

Ranked opponent rallys for points all evening
Unable to recover from large deficits in each game, the Rockdale Lady Tigers fell 25-9, 25-8, 25-12 to Thrall on the road Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers fell to 2-5 on the young season.
Thrall is ranked No. 9 in Class 2A and is a favorite to make an appearance at the state tournament. Full Story

Thorndale, Milano have not met on the football field since 2007
While Thorndale and Milano are about 20 miles apart and reside in the same classification and county, when they butt heads Thursday at Pruett Field in Milano, it will be akin to seeing Haley’s Comet.
The Highway 79 neighbors have not met on the football field in any capacity since 2007, when the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs 14-7 in Thorndale. Full Story

Cake auction raises over $7,500 for athletic program
The opportunity to purchase baked goods sent bidders into a feeding frenzy Monday night as the 14th annual “Meet the Tigers” cake auction raised $7,500 for the RISD athletic department.
Tiger players bake cakes, pies or cookies themselves and the results were auctioned off by veteran caller John Fisher to anyone who wished to bid, with many going for $200 to $300 apiece. Full Story

Thorndale wins in straight sets at home
Thorndale throttled Troy in straight sets 25-17, 25-13, 27-25 Tuesday at Bulldog Gym.
Shelbi Schneider scooped up 15 digs with five aces as Emily Churchman pounded out 15 kills and collected nine digs, three aces, one block and one assist.
Peyton O’Campo dished of 23 assists with three, two digs and two aces kills, while Gabby Moreno contributed 13 digs and one ace. Full Story

Milano fights back to record win over Academy
The Milano Lady Eagles rallied from a first game setback to dispose of Academy 19-25, 25-18, 25-5, 22-25, 15-8 Tuesday night on the road.
The Lady Eagles improved to 7-2 on the season.

MIlano’s Karl moves to 3-0 with another TKO
CORPUS CHRISTI— Milano native Ryan “Cowboy” Karl’s first-round TKO of David Green on Aug. 7 pushed Karl to 3- 0 in his professional boxing career.
