Reporter/Bill Martin Rockdale pitcher Ryker Zinn picks off a runner in the fourth inning of the Tigers’ shutout victory. Reporter/Bill Martin Ryker Zinn scattered five hits and his defense made some sparkling plays behind him as Rockdale blanked Palestine 3-0 Tuesday evening at Tiger Field.

The lanky lefty sparkled as the Tigers improved to 6-4-1 on the season and the sophomore did not allow a hit past the fourth inning.

Zinn (2-1) struck out just two batters, but coaxed Palestine (5-6) into putting the ball in play where his defense could help him.

Palestine grounded into a pair of double plays, key in the third inning when it loaded the bases with four hits.

Zinn walked three batters— two in the first inning.

Rockdale took advantage of Palestine’s sloppiness in the first inning, when David Franklin and Devon Whitsel reached on infield singles and scored after three Wildcat errors and two passed balls.

The Tigers produced an insurance run in the fifth, when Franklin singled again and came home on Brandon Lopez’ single.

The Tigers managed just two hits in a 10-0 loss to Waco High on the road Friday.
