Surplus food giveaway Thursday at KC Hall

The Capital Area Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry will hold its monthly distribution in Rockdale at 9 a.m. Thursday in the KC Hall parking lot, according to Denise Sifuentes, spokesperson.

“Volunteer helpers will be needed and greatly appreciated,” she said. “These distributions depend totally upon our volunteer helpers.”

Public hearing slated on RISD school budget

A public hearing on the 2017-18 Rockdale ISD school budget is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, in the Central Administration Building.

The budget is proposed to be supported by a $1.36 tax rate, the same as the current 2016-17 rate.

Thorndale Revue ahead June 22 in cafeteria

THORNDALE—The annual Thorndale Review will be held at 7 p.m. June 22 in the at the TISD cafeteria.

Theme is “Fiesta.”

Contestants can pick up and drop off applications at the Good Times Eats Cafe on Main Street in Thorndale Monday through Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 8 p.m.

Rockdale city pool re-opens on Tuesday

The Rockdale City Swimming Pool, located at Veterans Memorial Park, re-opened on Tuesday and will remain open for the remainder of the summer, according to City Manager Chris Whittaker.

The pool has been closed due to a lack of lifeguards and an electrical pump situation.

Renaissance Villa open house slated June 21st

Renaissance Villa, 700 Dyer, will hold an open house and “sneak peak” of new facilities at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 21.

There will be light refreshments, treats, beverages, door prizes and a drawing (must be present to win).

Speakers will share information about how Medicaid and hospice work.

Electricity providers topic for Thorndale city

THORNDALE—Thorndale city council members were to discuss proposals for electricity providers during the regular council session at 5:30 p.m. June 14 at City Hall.

Also during the past week about 60 Thorndale residents gathered with city officials to discuss water issues in the city.

Thorndale is attempting to satisfy TCEQ water capacity requirements. Another public session is to be scheduled.
