Master Gardeners set Fall Rose Sale Saturday in Rockdale, Cameron

Little River Basin Master Gardeners of Milam County will hold their “Fall Blooming Beauty Rose Sale” on Saturday, Oct. 14 at two locations—Rockdale Chamber of Commerce from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and downtown Cameron at the “Steaktoberfest” from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Fall is the best time to plant roses, giving roots ample time to get established and the plant time to prepare for its spring bloom,” said Master Gardener James Anderle.

In addition, sale visitors can get free advice from Master Gardeners about how to plant and care for roses. These “blooming beauties” will sell for $18 (under market value and buyers will pay no tax as LRBMG is a non-profit organization.

Free genealogy lock-in seminar here Oct. 20

Milam County Genealogical Society is teaming with Lucy Patterson Library for the second year to present a genealogy lock-in through a live feed with the Waco-McLennan County Library Genealogy Center.

The free program will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20 in the genealogy section of Patterson library, and will continue until 5 p.m.

Subjects to be covered are: Researching Orphan Train riders from 1854 to 1929; Beginner’s guide to documenting your family history; Discovering local history through a regional depository; My Texans during the Republic; and Connecting your DNA matches.

This free program is open to all who wish to learn more about genealogy and the study of ancestors and history. There will be light refreshments provided during the breaks between sessions.

Rice Cemetery meeting scheduled October 21

CAMERON—The annual Rice Cemetery Association/ Foundation meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at the cemetery, CR 241, Cameron.

“Bring a covered dish and lawn chairs,” said Beverly Angell, spokesperson. “Mail contributions to Rice Cemetery Foundation, Inc., 3965 S. Hwy 77, Cameron, TX 76520.”
