Free fruits, vegetables on tap for December 1

Rockdale’s monthly free fruits and vegetables distribution is set for 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 1 in the KC Hall parking lot.

There are no eligibility requirements for receiving the items.

The fruits and vegetables distribution is held on the first Thursday of each month.

Thorndale Cares sets deadlines for 2017

Application forms for Thorndale Cares may now be picked up from Thorndale City Hall and Betty Cuba at Thorndale Elementary, according to organizer Melvin Hirt.

Application deadline is Dec. 15 and new applications must be submitted every year.

Hirt said monetary donations can be made at Thorndale Prosperity Bank with receipts available upon request.

He said donations of food and toys may be dropped off at Thorndale City Hall.

First winners listed from turkey giveaway

The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce has listed its first winners in the annual turkey giveaway sponsored by local merchants and the Chamber.

They are:

Medicare info on tap Nov. 29 in Rockdale

With the annual Medicare Enrollment Period ending on Dec. 7, the Area Agency on Aging of Central Texas (AAACT)will be in Rockdale to assist senior citizens with their decisions.

AAACT will be at the Hunter’s Chase Senior Apartments from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hunter’s Chase is located at 1501 East Belton.

Representatives will provide assistance in reviewing 2018 health and prescription drug plans.

Individuals must bring their Medicare card, list of medications and dosage, pharmacy preference and household income.

The AAACT will screen Medicare beneficiaries concerning eligibility for Low Income Subsidy (also known as Extra Help) and provide application assistance.

New council member named in Thorndale

THORNDALE—The Thorndale City Council has a new member.

Meeting in regular session last Wednesday the council named George Galbreath to the governing body.

Galbreath fills the vacancy of the unexpired term of former council member Mara McDowell.

Thanksgiving Service scheduled for Tuesday

Rockdale’s annual Community Thanksgiving Service was to have been held at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 21) at Rockdale Christian Church.

It is sponsored by the Rockdale Ministerial Alliance, according to Rev. Ken Ansell, president.

Three pastors will share short devotions:

Mike Zapata, Newfound Life; Lance Walch, Forest Grove Christian; and Harry Stevenson, Rockdale Christian.

A community choir will provide special music and a light meal will follow. “Please bring your favorite snack-type item or dessert,” Rev. Ansell said.

Rockdale Christian Church is at 1406 Sager.

‘Tech Town Hall’ set

Congressman Bill Flores will hold a “Tech Town Hall” for seven counties including Milam from 6:55 to 8 p.m. Nov. 28.
