Monday final filing day in ‘18 primaries

Monday is the final day to file for the March 6 Republican and Democratic Primaries.

JUDGE RACE—Several March contests and one November general election race are already assured.

Steve Young and Frank Summers are vying for the Republican nomination for county judge where Dave Barkemeyer, the Republican incumbent, is not seeking a new term.

Democrat Jared Melde has filed in the Democratic Primary for the county judge nomination.

GOP—Races already assured on the March 6 Republican ballot, to date, according to Whitmire, are:

• Pct. 2 Commissioner, incumbent Donald Shuffield, Doug Baker and James Condry.

• Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace, Greg Hoelscher, Robert Hollas.

• Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace, incumbent Sam Berry, Don Schuerman.

• Treasurer, incumbent Linda Acosta has filed and Jennifer “Jenger” Epperson Moran has announced her intention to file.

• County clerk—Jodi Morgan (incumbent Democrat Barbara Vansa is passing up the ballot).

• District clerk—Karen Berry (incumbent).

• J-P Precinct 3—Andy Isaacs (incumbent).

• J-P Precinct 4—Incumbent Gary Northcott, currently serving as a Democrat.

DEMOCRAT—Pct. 4 Commissioner Jeff Muegge has filed for a new term.

FINAL DAY—Democratic Chair Tommy Grimes said he will be in his office until the 5 p.m. Monday deadline but noted candidates must have cash in hand or file a notatized petition beforehand and said the adjacent bank notary will only be available until 3 p.m.
