Bloodmobile visit ahead Sunday at Saint Paul’s

THORNDALE—A Scott & White Bloodmobile will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Thorndale from 8 a.m. to 12-noon Sunday, Dec. 17.

December donors receive a long-sleeve shirt and a “mystery goodie bag.”

Special needs group plans Christmas party

The Special Needs Support Group will host its annual Christmas Party from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Patterson Civic Center.

That evening includes a catered meal, face painting and a magic show with Carlos the Magician.

Deadline Thursday for Brown Santa names

Thursday, Dec. 14 is the deadline to submit names for the Milam County Sheriff’s Department’s annual Brown Santa program.

Brown Santa delivers toys to needy children.

Applicants, at the sheriff’s office, must bring a Medicare or WIC card with child’s name on it, a current utility bill, birth certificate or school-age children must have current report card and parent/guardian must present a valid Texas ID.

New, unwrapped toy donations may be taken to the sheriff’s office in Cameron at any time. There’s a Brown Santa account at Classic Bank.

Delivery date for the Brown Santa program is Wednesday, Dec. 20.

POSGCD directors okay water management plan

Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) Board of Directors met in public hearing to adopt the district management plan Dec. 5.

Judith McGeary, executive director of Farm & Ranch Freedom Alliance, voiced concern with the District evaluating monitoring results to establish compliance with DFCs every three years and said that she felt that this should be done on a yearly basis.

After the hearing, the directors unanimously adopted the POSGCD Groundwater Management Plan.

Other board actions included amending the 2017 budget and accepting an engagement letter for the district audit.

Directors heard reports about the District monitoring program, education and outreach efforts, district grant programs, and an executive committee review.

Fire calls listed for South Milam County volunteers

Fire calls dispatched from the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department during the past week from the Rockdale Police Station were listed as follows:

• 1:03 p.m. Thursday, Thorndale VFD dispatched to location on Michalk Street, turned out to be a toaster problem.

• 12:35 p.m. Sunday, grass fire, 200 block of County Road 428, Thorndale VFD toned out, then call was canceled.

• 4:17 p.m. Sunday, truck on fire, US 79 at FM 1786, Rockdale VFD.

• 3:12 p.m. Monday, hay reported on fire, north side of US 79 near Gause Full Gospel Church, Gause, Milano and Hearne VFDs responded.

• 4:47 p.m. Monday, pasture fire, 2600 block of CR 340 Milano VFD responded.

• 3:28 p.m. Tuesday, Rockdale VFD toned out to oven fire, 2000 block of Alcoa, fire had burned itself out upon arrival.
