With sunny weather in the low 80s and almost no chance of rain, the Rockdale Fair and Rodeo kicks off this week with perfect temperatures.
Events got kicked off on Wednesday with an exhibitor’s party and lots of check-ins.
Thursday all of the market animal and food vendors will be arriving early as judging begins for turkeys, broilers and rabbits in the afternoon. The food booths open at 5 p.m. and the carnival opens at 6 p.m. Team roping begins at 7 p.m. and there will be a dance at the pavilion with A.J. Castillo performing.
On Friday morning the fair opens early for everyone with food booths and arts and crafts exhibits. Friday’s judging includes market swine, market goats, market steers and breeding heifers. Meat inspection for the barbecue cookoff will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. and the dances and concerts start at 7:30 p.m. with Johnny Hoyle. Giovanni & the Hired Hands begin at 10:30 p.m. The carnival opens at noon.
On Saturday food booths and commercial exhibits are available all day. At 10:30 a.m. judging begins for barbecue, the classic car show opens, junior washer pitching begins and the commercial heifer sale starts.
The cornhole tournament starts at noon and the classic car show awards will be held at 1 p.m. Senior washer pitching begins at 1:30 p.m. and at 4 p.m the barbecue cookoff trophies will be handed out.
At 6 p.m. the presentation of the Herdsman and appreciation awards begins in the show barn followed by the Youth Livestock Auction Sale, after which are the baked goods and Ag Mechanics sales.
Entertainment and dances on Saturday in the pavilion will be Josh Ward starting at 9 p.m. followed by Wade Bowen from 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
