(Editors note: I have to admit that I knew little to nothing about hemp or CBD oil before I interviewed James Simonton. There are a lot of claims in this story, almost none of which are approved by the FDA. What the FDA has to say is in the blue box below. However, if even half of the claims are true, consumers have another way to deal with some of their ailments without prescription medications, and they will be available at this new boutique. As with anything else, knowledge is key in knowing if these products are right for you. And Mr. Simonton is very knowledgeable about his products. He gave me a lot more information than I could fit in this story. To me, it is a fascinating topic.)
At the last city council meeting, James Simonton’s 3G Farm was given the okay to open his hemp product boutique in the building next to Banda’s which used to be a nail salon. He hopes to be open by the first of February.
Simonton is a walking advertisement for his hemp products. As a former pipeline welder, he ruptured three disks in his back. He was operated on in 2011, recovered and went back to work, then injured again in 2015. His doctors then told him he had to give it up.
“My doctor had me taking a handful of pills every day and I finally decided I wasn’t going to do that anymore,” Simonton said. He started using hemp products instead of prescription medication and has been fine ever since.
Another story he shared with the city council was that when he was 12 years old, he had to get stitches in his ear. For some reason after that procedure he started regularly having seizures. Four years ago he stopped taking the seizure medications and started using hemp oils and gummies and he has been seizure-free for the past two years.
So what are hemp products? What do they help with?
You might be surprised. In addition to a large collection of items like industrial and consumer textiles, hemp can be used for making paper, building materials like insulation, foods like salad oils and margarine, oil paint and varnishes, even soaps and shampoos. The list of uses is too long to print in this space.
In addition to those type of uses, there are also a host of health-related uses. The oils in the hemp plant are used for seizures, as we’ve already mentioned, nausea relief, natural pain relief, diabetes prevention, helping to suppress the growth of cancer cells, insomnia, promoting cardiovascular health, can aid in stopping smoking and even helps with acne, believe it or not.
3G Farm is located on US 77 and, according to Simonton, “The whole growing process from seed to harvest takes about six to seven months. After harvesting, the hemp is sent to a lab for processing and the lab turns the result into creams, oils and gummies. It takes about 30 days to process it and get the products into the store.”
When asked about security, Simonton said, “The farm itself is very secure and I’m in the process of building a higher fence around it. The store will have cameras and lots of other security features.”
In June of 2019, House Bill 1325 was signed into law and authorizes production, manufacture, retail sale and inspection of industrial hemp crops and products. Simonton thinks the State of Texas will legalize marijuana by the end of the year and that’s why they’ve started regulating it.
“Texas is surrounded by places where marijuana is legal. There’s two ways states can go: legalizing it for medicinal purposes or for recreational use. Mexico, New Mexico and Arizona are all in the recreational category, while Arkansas and Louisiana are in the medicinal category. Oklahoma was medical but is going recreational this year,” according to Simonton.
Since the state regulates how much THC oil can be in Simonton’s products, which is only .03%, legalization in Texas would mean that he would be able to have higher concentrations of the oil in his products.
CBD oil can help control certain cancers, eases pain, stimulates bone growth, reduces blood sugar levels, stops the growth of bacteria and slows inflammation as well as many other uses.
The store will also be called 3G Farm and is located at 478 West US 79 and the phone number will be 737-259-1362.
Simonton will be able to answer any questions you have about your ailments and how he can help.
