Saturday was the first day to file for a position on March 3, 2020, primary ballots and by Tuesday four contested races, one of them three-way, developed in the Republican Primary, according to County Chair Bill Whitmire.
The sheriff’s race is contested with incumbent Chris White challenged by Craig Wise.
Prosecutor Bill Torrey is challenged by Lonnie Gosch.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Richard “Opey” Watkins drew challengers in Ricky McCall and Henry Hubnik.
Frank Summers and Charles Truitt filed for the Precinct 3 Commissioner position. Incumbent John Fisher is not seeking re-election.
Also filing were the following incumbents:
Sherry Mueck, tax assessor-collector; Jay Beathard, constable, Precinct 3; Michael Moehling, constable, Precinct 4 (currently serving as a Democrat).
Whitmire said he expects the following to file on the GOP ballot in upcoming days:
Art Neal, Precinct 3 Commissioner; Charlie West (incumbent), Precinct 2 Constable.
Final day to file is Monday, Dec. 9.
