Milam County 4-H member, Robert Miller, attended the State Water Ambassador Training the week of June 27th. Robert has served as a State Water Ambassador last 4-H year and will be entering in his second term this year. As a state water ambassador, he has learned a great deal about water conservation and many other important water and natural resources information to better help serve Milam County.

At the state water ambassador training, Robert learned many new skills that he can share with other 4-H members.

At his training, they visited the SeaCenter Texas in Lake Jackson for a behind the scenes look at the red drum, flounder and trout hatchery. They visited Trinity Bay with the Galveston Bay Foundation and planted marsh grasses and tested water quality and looked for all kind of marine critters. They cruised Galveston Bay learning about the importance of ocean transportation and marine ecosystem services to the Texas economy.

They toured Acres Ranch in Richmond to learn about the Brazos River, witness erosion and deposit, practice different methods of water quality testing, and we even got to fish. They listened to a lecture from Dr. Lucas Gregory and Dr. Terry Gentry to learn about bacteria source tracking and watershed protection.

They also listened to a presentation by Jennifer Nations, City of College Station, at the Carter Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, and toured the Texas A&M Aquaculture Research Facility.

They visited the RELLIS campus in Bryan and took tour of the Texas A&M On-site Wastewater Treatment Facility to learn about several strategies for on-site water treatment. Robert learned many new skills and is looking forward to sharing these with the 4-H members in Milam County.

Thank you to the Post Oak Savannah Groudwater Conservation District for sponsoring Robert Miller as a Texas 4-H Water Ambassador.
