It’s almost Fair time!

The 48th annual Rockdale Fair & Rodeo will be held Oct. 14-21, featuring professional rodeo and top country music acts to dance the nights away at Rockdale Fair Park.

Tickets are $30 for a threeday adult pass, $20 for children and seniors. Daily admission is available for $20 for adults and $10 for children and seniors.

The event kicked off with a children’s pageant and Miss Rockdale Fair pageant on Saturday at the Rockdale High School Auditorium. Winners will represent Rockdale as ambassadors at area events, parades and more. (See related photos on pages 8A and 8B.)

Activities at Fair Park get going Wednesday, Oct. 18, with a free Family Night Carnival and Kick-off Party. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Nightly rodeo will be held at 7:30 p.m. as a part of the Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association circuit.

The music gets kicking Thursday, Oct. 19, with Rockdale’s own DJ Big Ant spinning tunes from 8-10 p.m., followed by Tejano superstar David Lee Garza from 10-11:30. Garza is known for hits like “Ojo De Vidrio,” “Sufro Tu Ausencia” and more.

On Friday, The Emotions and locals Curt & Hannah will start the evening at 8 p.m. Then Randall King, crooner of “You in a Honky Tonk” and “Mirror, Mirror,” will perform from 10:30-midnight.

And on Saturday, Hayden Haddock opens the show from 9-10:30 p.m. Headliner Wade Bowen will then take the stage. Bowen has had reddirt country hits like “Who Am I?” “Everything Has Your Memory” and “Fell In Love On Whiskey.”
