Judge Steve Young reported on Tuesday evening that Milam County has experienced the 60th COVID-related death.
“These deaths are preventable. The fix is the vaccine. Pfizer has been fully approved by the FDA and Moderna will undoubtedly be approved soon,” Young said.
Milam County is 41.45% vaccinated. This represents 8,743 individuals. According to Young, “We are making progress and vaccination rates are up. In fact we vaccinated 160 people on Saturday. Please get vaccinated.”
Today there are 18 new cases to report: five new PCR cases and 13 new probable cases. Eleven cases were discharged from the hospital for a net increase of seven new confirmed positive cases.
The active confirmed case count in Milam County is now at 233, which is another record high.
Three individuals were admitted into the hospital and 12 of those are on ventilators. So far, 296 Milam County residents have been hospitalized since the pandemic began.
There are currently 22 people hospitalized which is an increase of one. All Milam County residents hospitalized are unvaccinated. Ninety-eight percent of the cases being identified are the Delta variant.
There will be two more vaccine clinics this week.
On Thursday, Sept. 2, the clinic will be held at 1700 Brazos Ave. in Rockdale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Friday, Sept. 3, the clinic will be held at Gause United Methodist Church, 204 W. Walnut St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
