Exciting news was announced at Monday night’s city council meeting by Rockdale Municipal Development Director (MDD) Jim Gibson.
The 166 acres on CR 487, which was originally bought for use as an industrial park, was put on the market for sale, and an offer to build a 660-home subdivision was received by the MDD and the sale was approved by the citycouncil on Monday night.
The company who is buying the property, which is expected to close on Oct. 1, is Ranch Road Development from Bastrop. D.R. Horton will build the homes.
The plans call for residential homes, town homes, parks, hike and bike trails, with 13 acres set aside for a new elementary school in the middle within walking distance from all homes.
“The first houses should be ready about two years from now, 20 to 24 months,” according to Gibson. “We are excited to have the first subdivision in Rockdale in decades and to be working with Ranch Road Development and D.R. Horton,” he added.
