McVoy Grocery and Feed and the McVoy family were feted at Rockdale’s 89th annual Homecoming Celebration held at the Patterson Civic Center on Sunday.

A few of the original Regeneration Singers made a second appearance and sang “God Bless America” and the Rockdale High School song. Members present were Melanie Todd, Denise Starnes, Susan Scott Henderson, Barkley Alford and Donald “Doc” Shuffield and his daughter, Peyton, who joined the group.

The Class of 1973 was honored for their 50th reunion. The Class of 1948 was honored for their 75th reunion and one member, Gerie Offield, was on hand at the celebration.

Melanie Todd spoke about working at McVoy’s and gave the history of the family store with several funny anecdotes about Adolph McVoy.

Rockdale Homecoming Association President Dale Throckmorton gave a bit of history on Rockdale and some of the new things that have happened lately.

Mayor pro tem Lin Perry read a proclamation declaring Sunday, June 11 as Rockdale Homecoming Day.

A catered barbeque dinner was provided by Thorndale Meat Market.
