The COVID-19 abbreviated 45th annual Rockdale Fair continues this weekend after the naming of the Rockdale Fair Queen and baked good competition winners last weekend.
Saturday night the new Miss Rockdale Fair Queen Hannah Delz was crowned in a ceremony at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall. Delz is a senior at Rockdale High School and the daughter of Jeremy and Kasey Delz; first runner-up Kinley Meadors is a sophomore at Thorndale High School and the daughter of Brian and Shannon Meadors; second runner-up Arianna Eastridge is a senior at Rockdale High School and the daughter of Antoinette Martinez; and Miss Congeniality Breonna Travis is a senior at Rockdale High School and the daughter of Alonzo and Jennifer Montelongo.
The baked good winners for the 45th Rockdale Fair were also announced Saturday and posted on the Fair Association’s Facebook page.
In the senior division cake competition, Baylee Wall of Milano 4-H is the grand champion with reserve honors going to Karsen Galvan of the Cameron FFA; in the pie category the grand champion is Kynlie Cargill of Thorndale FFA and the reserve champion is Wylie Barrett, who is in the Thorndale 4-H; in the cookie category, Railyn Youree of the Cameron 4-H is the grand champion and the reserve winner is Emma Paxton of Thorndale FFA.
In the junior division, the cake grand champion is Riley Clinard of the Thorndale 4-H with reserve honors going to Hannah Bakken from the Milano 4-H; the pie winners are grand champion Carlie Eason of the Cameron Junior FFA and reserve champ Macelyn Furmage of the Cameron 4-H; the cookie winners are grand champion Mallory Miller of the Milano FFA and reserve champ Carlie Eason of the Cameron Junior FFA .
The park will be open and tickets are not required this year for the livestock show and auction sales. The public is invited to support the kids of Milam County, Fair Association President Johnny Hill said.
On Thursday, Oct. 15, the goat show will begin at 8 a.m. in the main show ring at Fair Park. Lamb judging will follow at noon.
Over in the commercial heifer barn the ag mechanics judging will start at 10 a.m. Projects that did not place in the judging will be released after the show.
Steer, swine and haltered breeding beef heifers can begin arriving at 5 p.m. and must be in place by 7 p.m. Weigh in for the swine and steers begins at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday the commercial heifers can be brought in starting at 7 a.m. and they have to be in place by 9 a.m.
The swine show starts at 8 a.m. in the main show ring.
Commercial heifer judging gets underway at 11 a.m. in the commercial heifer barn.
Steer judging will start at noon in the main show ring and the breeding beef heifer show will start at the conclusion of the steer judging in the ring. The breeding heifers will be released after the show and must be out of the barn by 6 p.m.
On Saturday the commercial buyers brunch will start at 9 a.m., then at 10:30 the commercial heifer sale cranks up in the show barn. That day at 4 p.m. will be the buyer’s reception in the Home Demonstration Building.
The youth auction sale starts at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the baked food sale and the ag mechanics sale.
Last year was a record-setting one for the livestock show with the Rockdale Fair Association figures showing youth livestock auction bringing in $447,315 and all auctions raked in $717,925 to break the past records.
The livestock total shattered the old record of $392,870 set in 2017.
On Sunday all remaining animals must be cleared out of the barn by 10 a.m.
