The 17th annual MARC Run, brought to you by The Bad To The Bone Riders of Rockdale, will be held Saturday, April 14, at The Ranch, 415 W. Hwy 79, in Rockdale, according to Charles Starr, spokesman.
The annual ride benefi ts the Milam Adult Resource Center here in Rockdale. It serves all Milam County adult residents with physical and learning disabilities.
MARC is a 501C3 (non-profit) organization that depends on this fund-raiser to be a major resource to keep serving its clients. It teaches these consumers valuable day-to-day life skills that most people take for granted.
“In the 16-year history of the MARC Run, it has donated 100 percent of the proceeds from its rides to MARC, amounting to more than $259,563,” Starr said.
The ride for 2017 will start and end at The Ranch in Rockdale. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with first bike out at 11 a.m. Fee is $20 for rider and $25 with a passenger. That includes a barbecue meal with all the trimmings after the ride for all participants.
“We will also be selling plates for $10 each to the public, starting at 11:30 a.m. until sold out,” Starr said. “There will be long-sleeve and pocket ride T-shirts for sale by pre-order only for $25.” Order deadline for shirts is Monday, March 5, and may be placed by calling 512-698-2784.
“We will have plenty of short-sleeve ride shirts for $20 the day of ride,” Starr continued. “We will also have ride pins for $5 each.”
“The ride will take us through some nice roads in Milam, Lee and Burleson Counties,” he said. Stops/ sponsors on the Ride are Cyndi’s Hawg Hang Out in Hogg, Cliff’s Tavern in Rockdale, Bob’s Steakhouse in Cameron, Nat’s in Milano and The Ranch in Rockdale.
Last bike in will be at 4 p.m. at The Ranch. “At this point we will have a barbecue meal prepared by Kathy Quinney and a lot of volunteers,” Starr said.
A live auction will begin at 4:30 p.m. with John Fisher handling the auctioneering duties. “The live auction always promises something for everyone and for all tastes,” Starr added. “We will also have a 50/50 drawing, D.J. music and door prizes.”
“We will award plaques for the oldest rider, youngest rider, oldest bike and MARC Consumers Choice, along with some special awards,” he said.
“Please come out and help us support this group of very special people that love Milam County and the biker community,” he continued. “The people of MARC are so near and dear to our hearts and we want this year to be the best MARC Run yet.”
