Added money gave a big boost to the final total of the Rockdale Fair Association’s livestock auction that benefited the youth of Milam County.

This year’s total of $742,905.85 zoomed past last year’s record of $717,925, boosted in a big way by money added to the auction total of the lightweight class steer first-place winner.

Kennedy Hobbs’ steer went for $4,968 on the auction block, but added money including one gift for $35,000 from Century Farms Trading and three others over $10,000 and several smaller ones boosted her total to a record $89,125.40. Hobbs is with the Thorndale 4H.

The fair’s books remained open for added money until the Wednesday after the Oct. 17 sale.
