AUSTIN—The Court of Appeals in Austin on Friday upheld the 12-year sentence given a 53-year-old Rockdale man in 2008.

R ick y L ee Murray was assessed that sentence by 20th District Ju d g e Jo h n Yo u n g b l o o d after a sentencing hearing and a pre-sentence investigation.

In June, 2018, after deliberating less than an hour, a jury found Murray guilty of sexual assault.

In addition to the prison term, Murray was required to register as a sexual offender for life.

Murray was accused of sexually assaulting a 30-year-old female victim in the Rockdale Mobile Home Park on East Cameron Avenue (US 79), in March, 2017.

The prosecution argued the woman, who was suffering from back and neck pain, “was in a medicated state and was unable to adequately combat the defendant.”

Three weeks after the incident police received a call to return to the mobile home and found the woman deceased from a gunshot wound. That death was ruled a suicide.
