Rockdale Earth Day Chairman David Melton would like to remind our readers that Friday is Arbor Day.
In Central Texas Arbor Day is celebrated on Nov. 5 because we want to give new roots a head start against brutal heat. The exceptions are citrus trees and other subtropicals, which we plant after frost is gone for good.
Five of the best trees to plant in Texas in November are Live Oaks, Bur Oaks, Cedar Elms, Bald Cypress and magnolias.
“As long as you water newly-planted trees regularly they should be doing very well by springtime,” said Melton.
Rockdale Earth Day’s next project is planting trees at the Kay Theater.
