POLICE REPORT
A speeding stop in a school zone Monday afternoon has led to the arrest of a 52-year-old Austin man on drug charges.
Lt. Stephen Goodrich said Kenneth Ray Boyd was charged with possession of a controlled substance (1 to 4 grams) and possession of marijuana (less than two ounces).
Goodrich said what police believe to be “hallucinogenic mushrooms” were found in the vehicle’s trunk.
Booking information was not available at presstime.
OFFENSES—Police responded to a burglary report involving a weed eater taken from a storage shed.
Goodrich said a vehicle parked outside the home of a relative was reported stolen during the week and was later found on a county road.
Goodrich said police are also looking into the theft of a trailer from a home.
Other offenses reported during the week included assault, driving while license invalid, theft with previous conviction and misdemeanor assault.
ACCIDENTS—Police investigated three traffic accidents during the past week.
Police responded to Chicken Express at 9:11 p.m. Friday for a report of an accident with minor damages.
According to police, a Jeep Cherokee driven by Taylor Gaines of Rockdale was in collision with a Jaguar driven by April Ann Pharis, also of Rockdale.
No injuries were reported.
A 1:08 p.m. Sunday incident involved a vehicle striking a mailbox in the 400 block of East Third.
Driver was listed as Kenneth Klem of Rockdale. Police said he was transported to Little River-Rock-dale Hospital following the collision.
Police are still searching for a vehicle involved in a 1:58 p.m. Sunday incident on West Cameron (US 79) in front of Dairy Queen.
Police said it was reported a vehicle ran a Buick, driven by Kelly Thomas of North Las Vegas, Nevada, off the road and left the scene.
CITATIONS—Police issued 17 speeding tickets during the past week.
Other citations issued included three for driving while license invalid, two for running a red light and one each for failure to report change of address or name, failure to maintain financial responsibility, no driver’s license and violation of city ordinance.
WARRANTS—Police served 12 warrants during the week for a variety of agencies.
SERVICE CALLS— Officers responded to 155 calls for service during the week and there were 106 calls received through the 911 emergency system.
