Arturo Villarreal Jr.’s career path did not lead him straight to where he is today. There were a few twists and turns along the way to his position as one of the assistant district attorneys for Milam County.

First off he got married not long after he graduated from high school, then he put off finishing college for about 20 years.

In those years he got plenty of life experience, however, working as a busboy, waiter and then restaurant manager.

He worked for both publishing and printing firms before starting a mailing business called Centex Mailing in Taylor.

But going back to school always rattled around in the back of his mind.

And he got three signals is short succession that pushed him back to college.

He took National IQ on TV and scored in the top percentile.

His younger sister got her doctorate degree.

And one day someone told him he wanted to buy his business.

Villarreal said those things got him moving and put him on the path to the classroom in his quest for the courtroom.

In 2009 he graduated from the University of Texas Law School with a juris doctorate, and worked in private practice and for the Cameron County District Attorney before joining the legal staff in Milam County.

“I handle domestic violence cases. It encompasses those living together and those who have not gotten that far yet,” Villarreal said.

He also works child sex cases.

“The victims in my cases are the most vulnerable in our community. I really view my job as being here for them. And hopefully reducing the chances for more of our families and friends to become victims,” he said.

Villarreal’s wife, Cynthia, is a registered nurse and a team leader with a major insurance company. They have two children, one who has graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, and the other who is a sophomore at the University of Texas in Dallas.

The Villarreals enjoy spending time on the road taking trips. “We enjoy driving,” he said.

Since they enjoy being behind the wheel, it follows they would find joy in automobiles.

“I love antique cars. I have a 1965 Mustang 2+2 that is getting completely restored.” Villareal said
