The Milam County Sheriff’s Department is awaiting autopsy reports after a 38-year-old Austin native died after collapsing on a rural Milam County Road Friday
Sheriff Chris White identified the man as Hans Oliver Tweeten.
White said at approximately 9:50 a.m., deputies assisted American Medical Response (AMR) to County Road 450, south of Thorndale.
“The caller reported that a person was found laying in front of a property gate having trouble breathing in the 1200 block of the county road,” White said.
White said the subject was transported to a hospital in Round Rock by AMR when his medical condition became worse and he became unresponsive.
“A few hours later the hospital contacted the sheriff’s office to advise that the subject brought to them had died, but they had not been able to identify who he was,” White said. “Deputies checked a back-pack and belongings they had recovered at the medical scene, however there was no identification information found.”
A Williamson County forensics team was called in to the hospital and was able to determine the identity of the man based on his fingerprints, according to White.
An autopsy has been ordered by the Justice of the Peace in Round Rock to assist our investigation in trying to determine what exactly happened.
“Investigators later determined that Tweeten was staying with a friend about half a mile further down the road from where he had collapsed,” White said.
“At that location, investigators recovered Mr. Tweeten’s wallet and ID and were informed that he had also worked at Dollar General in Thorndale,” White said.
White said preliminary results of the autopsy could take a few more days to receive and toxicology information could take up to 12 weeks to receive.
“However doctors who had treated and tried to save Mr. Tweeten at the hospital indicated that there were no visible signs of trauma but they could not conclude what had caused his death,” White said.
