Dear editor and Rockdale neighbors,
Rockdale’s Backyard Farmer’s Market would like to take a moment to introduce ourselves to the wonderful community we serve and extend an invitation to attend one of our weekly markets, especially our First Saturday Community Events.
We are located at 449 W. Cameron Ave. in Rockdale, next to one of our town’s well known, and well loved businesses, Brett’s Backyard Bar-B-Que.
Although we share the same address, we are a completely separate operation. We are so thankful to Brett for the opportunity to hold our market in the space he has generously allowed, free of charge, and for encouraging fellow local small businesses to grow and flourish right here in our community.
We are a vendor lead, vendor managed Farmer’s Market, right here in your backyard. We are made up of 30-plus (and growing weekly) local artisans, crafters, bakers, farmers and artists.
Our management team is made up of Diana Casario, owner of Herbal Delights, Emily Connell, owner of Connell Farm, and Maggie Martin, owner of Maggie’s Market.
Together, along with suggestions and votes of all our vendors, we coordinate our weekly markets, advertising, and plan our special community events.
We have a diverse variety of products ranging from your typical Farmer’s Market finds like fresh eggs, locally grown produce, and homemade jams and jellies, to not so typical items.
We have fresh, home baked breads, handmade wooden toys, home decor, tumblers, plants, fresh herbs, and many different forms of handmade art.
We offer a variety of handmade soaps, salves, tinctures, and teas.
That’s just to name a few of our regulars.
At our First Saturday Events, we have food trucks and entertainment for the whole family.
Every month has a special “theme” where we aim to give what we can back to the community, provide something fun (mostly free is always our goal), and bring our community together!
Our next event will be Aug. 6. Our back-to-school event will host a school supply drive for Rockdale and Thorndale schools, Market Bake Sale Fundraiser, sno-cone and funnel cake truck, a Fire Safety Class from RVFD, plus games and entertainment for all. You can even join our Watermelon Seed Spittin’ Contest.
