Milam up by 43 percent after state’s August check

It’s been the year Milam County entities have been waiting for.

At least so far.

With almost half of 2019 to go, the City of Rock-dale, Milam County and the Rockdale Municipal Development District have posted substantial gains for the year

Milam’ County’s August check was $109,226 That’s up 18.77 percent from the August, 2018 total, $91,788.

And the year-to-date total is now an impressive $895,931, a whopping 43,13 percent ahead of the 2018 total, $625,926.

A number of factors have come into play this year, much of them the same that helped to increase taxable values.

The Valero pipeline is crossing the county and there has been substantial increase in oil play in the Milam’s southeastern quadrant.

The City of Rockdale’s total was $76,594. That’s up 6.25 percent from the August, 2018 check, $72,057.

For the year, Rockdale is up 6.73 percent, from $513,236 to $547,802.

State Comptroller Glenn Hegar disbursed August sales tax checks recently. August checks represent sales taxes collected in June and reported to the state in July.

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) was also up for the month in August.

The MDD total for August was $35,985. That’s up 4.93 percent from $34,294 in August, 2018.

For the year, the MDD is up 6.61 percent, from $251,255 to $267,868.

The City of Cameron received a check for $101,721, up 8.53 percent from the $93,723 reported for August, 2018.

For the year, Cameron’s sales tax total is up 13.80 percent, from $570,385 to $649,134.

Milano’s August check of $7,770 was down 2.80 percent from the August, 2018, total of $7,996.

For the year, Milano is up 7.18 percent, from $57,261 to $61,374.

Thorndale’s August check was $15,508. That’s up 10.62 percent from $14,019 in August, 2018. For the year Thorndale is down 0.01 percent, from $101,296 to $101,278.

Buckholts registered a 24.92 percent increase for the month. Its August, 2019, check was $2,5,71, up from the August, 2018, figure of $2,058.

For the year, Buckholts is up 30.53 percent, from $12,626 to $16,483.

For Milam County municipalities, Cameron, Milano and Thorndale collect a 1.5-percent sales tax while the rate in Rockdale and Buckholts is one percent.

Lexington’s August total was $27,527. That’s up 36.41 percent from the $20,179 check received in August, 2018.

For the year, Lexington is up 6,64 percent, from 163,593 to $174,459.

Caldwell’s August check was $130,481, down 21.26 percent from $165,724 last August.

For the year, Caldwell is up 1.17 percent from the 2018 total, from $1,152,829 last year to $1,166,418 in 2019.

Burleson County is down 22.38 percent for the month, from $153,846 to $119,413.

For the year, Burleson is down 0.43 percent, from $944588 to $940,497.

In Falls County there was a 17.58-percent increase for the month, from $45,513 to $53,519.

For the year Falls is up 14.12-percent, from $281,665 to $321,423.

Bell County, which contain the Killeen-Temple-Belton metropolitan area was up 5.65-percent for the month, from $1,787,236 to $1,888,255.

Bell was also up for the year, going from $13,013,185 to $13,910,657, an increase of 6.89 percent.
