Rockdale police filed theft charges against a Rockdale man Sunday after an investigation revealed a bizarre set of circumstances, according to Lt. Stephen Goodrich.

Goodrich said an elderly woman was committed to a rest home by a relative.

“The investigation revealed he did not have power of attorney and could not legally do that,” Goodrich said.

The woman was released and returned home to find “virtually everything in it has been sold,” he said.

Curtis Eugene Dentler, 72, of Rockdale was charged with burglary of habituation. He was released on $10,000 bond.

RECOGNIZED—Police were called to a report of theft from a customer at a local super market and ended up making an arrest based on video evidence.

Goodrich said the woman reported an item had been stolen as she stopped.

“Sgt. Michael Hubnik looked at the video surveillance and recognized a potential suspect in the next aisle,” he said.

Police went to the suspect’s house, found and recovered the item.

Ronnie Dale Walker, 53, of Rockdale was charged with theft (less than $2,500 with two or more previous convictions.

ACCIDENTS—Police investigated three traffic accidents during the past week inside the Rockdale city limits.

Police said vehicles operated by Gladys Roberts and Mark Hull, both of Rockdale, were in collision at 11:11 a.m. Feb. 19 at the Ackerman-Belton intersection.

Minor injuries were reported and damage estimates were not available.

A motorcycle-pickup collision was reported at 2:56 p.m. Friday at the Mill-Wilcox intersection.

Police said driver of the pickup was Jerry Sharp of Milano while the motorcyclist was Alejandro Castillo of Rockdale.

No injuries were reported.

A two-vehicle accident was reported at 8:58 p.m. Saturday in the Walmart parking lot.

Driver of an SUV involved was listed as Dakota Jones of Logansport, Indiana. Other vehicle was parked car registered to Susan Boyd of Rockdale, police said.

CITATIONS—Pol ic e issued 33 citations during the past week, including 17 for speeding, and two for public intoxication.

RUNAWAY—Police said a juvenile reported as runway during the week returned home without incident.

SERVICE CALLS—Officers responded to 190 calls for service during the seven days and there were 94 calls received through the 911 system at the Rockdale Police Station.
