Rockdale Historical Society and the Rockdale I&GN Depot Museum presented an old-fashioned blacksmith demonstration by local expert Abe Doss on Saturday at the depot. More than 30 people came to watch.
The depot’s blacksmithing shop is a replica of what an early 1900’s shop would have looked like, constructed of antique board and batten siding.
Doss is the owner of Doss Metals LLC Custom Welding Services and has been “smithing” since he was a kid. Doss created nails and spikes which were very valuable during frontier days because they had to be hand forged.
