At the Nov. 16 meeting of the Thorndale ISD board of trustees voted 7-0 to approve the election returns of the Nov. 3 vote as presented.

Elementary Principal Michael Young said the PreK students would be moved out of the portable building and into the main building by partitioning the library to provide room for them.

High School Principal Jennifer Parnham said that Thorndale seniors scored on par with other across Texas on the SAT tests taken in September.

The board voted to approve an agreement with the Thrall ISD that would allow both districts access to the other districts buses and facilities in the event of an emergency.

The board voted to suspend asynchronous learning on Jan. 4. Superintendent Adam Ivy asked the board to suspend asynchronous learning but not terminate it because there is a chance that the district would have to return to asynchronous instruction in the future.

He added that students who are quarantined due to COVID-19 exposure will still need asynchronous instruction.

Additionally he said that any parent that feels that their child has a genuine medical necessity to remain in asynchronous instruction could bring a written medical order to show that need. The order would need to be written by a medical doctor.

Child nutrition director Jeni Anders told the board she has done surveys and looked at participation numbers this school year when students are not in school.

She said that few students have been coming to get a meal and that this trend is likely to reflect how a summer program would go.

She said that the School Health Advisory Council recommended the district apply for a TDA waiver for the summer feeding program and instead work with the local Pack Pals program to provide nonperishable meals to students that need food during the summer.

The board voted 7-0 to recommend to the School Health Advisory Council to apply for a waiver.
