At the Rockdale Independent School District’s April meeting representatives from Corgan Architecture Firm presented concept design plans for the college and career building planned for the former Richards Memorial Hospital building.
The plans include space for health science, STEM/manufacturing tech and machining mechanics, information technology and dual credit classes. Work on the center will be funded through donations. A timeline for completion will be dependent on receipt of donations.
The board approved Ashley Willard as the Rockdale Elementary School Assistant Principal.
The board approved the recommendation from the superintendent regarding employment for the 202324 school year for the following Kathy Pelzel, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction; Tiffany Whitsel, Assistant Superintendent of State and Federal Programs; Marc Schwarz, Principal at Rockdale Junior High; and Michael Young, Associate Principal at Rockdale High School.
Assistant Superintendent Pam Kaufmann reported on the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) for this year. Kaufmann explained topics and programs the committee focused on at their meetings throughout the year. The areas of concern the council would like the district to address through the SHAC in the upcoming year include pitfalls of the use of social media; fentanyl use-safety and awareness of dangers; consequences of bringing substances on campus.
Coach Hunter Hamrick shared updates about spring sports and post district contests. He also shared information about the spring sports banquet scheduled for May 18. Hamrick also outlined his plans for summer strength and conditioning and two-a-days.
High School Pr incipal Brent Hasselbach gave a report on UIL academics advancing to regionals. He also reported about prom this past weekend and thanked the junior class parents for their time.
Students from the high school took a field trip to Temple College on Monday for a presentation by an astronaut, who is the son of migrant farmers. The presentation focused on perseverance to achieve your goals.
End of course (EOC) testing begins next week. Scholarship deadlines are approaching and interviews begin next week for some scholarships.
Spring banquets are approaching and senior signing day will be May 12.
Intermediate Principal Cheyenne Miller reported that state testing is coming up soon and will last the next several weeks. After testing the campus will have a fourth grade electricity program, award ceremonies, student council field trip, and the final character education program.
Elementary School Principal Shannon Pourmanafzadehm reported on the Pre-K/ kindergarten registration and signing day on Wednesday, April 19. End of year testing begins this week. End of year awards will be the last week of school including the senior walk on graduation day.
The board approved the renewal of Singleton, Clark & Co. PC to act as the financial auditors for the 2022-23 fiscal year, with a renewal option of three additional years through fiscal year 2025-26.
