At Monday night’s school board of trustees meeting the board recognized the principals in the district for the month of October for National Principals Month.

The 2020-21 Annual Financial Report was presented by Joe Huang with Belt, Harris, Pechacek, LLP. Huang reviewed highlights of the audit with the board. There were no findings, which resulted in a clean audit. The board voted to approve the report as presented.

Board members, Julia Cardona and Charles Miles, reported on the 2021 TASA/ TASB Convention. Cardona and Miles shared their experiences at the convention and the messages from the keynote speakers.

Dell Giles, RISD Literacy and Mentoring Coordi nator, presented “Talking Points.” Talking Points is a new 2-way communication tool used by teachers to communicate with parents by text in the parent’s home language.

Kathy Pelzel, Director of Elementary Intervention, explained the “Get Better Faster” program the district principals are using to assist teachers in meeting the needs of their students.

Brent Hasselbach, Rockdale High School principal, reported on the takeaways from the Principals’ Institute that he and the other principals attended in Austin last month.

Genella Korenek, director of finance, presented the September Financial Report. The board voted to approve the September 2021 Financial Report as presented.
