Pre-trial hearing and trial dates have been rescheduled in the capital murder case of a 20-month-old Rockdale girl.

Shawn Vincent Boniello, also known as Shayla Angeline Boniello, is charged in connection with the death of Patricia Ann “Annie” Rader on Dec. 3, 2018, in a San Gabriel Street home.

A pre-trial hearing is set for Dec. 12 with the trial Jan. 21, 2020. Delays are common in such high-profile cases and the dates are subject to change again.

Prosecutor Bill Torrey is seeking the death penalty for Boniello, who is described as a “male transitioning to a female.”

An arrest affidavit by Rockdale Police Lt. Stephen Goodrich said Boniello confessed “out of anger and frustration” to squeezing the child for about three minutes “until feeling bones begin to crack and pop.”

DEATH PENALTY—Torrey announced in December he would seek the death penalty, a rarity in Milam County jurisprudence.

It has been 26 years since anyone was put to death for a Milam County crime. On Nov. 11, 1993, 32-year old Anthony Quinn Cook was executed for the 1988 slaying of University of Texas student David Van Tassel at a roadside park off Texas 36 between Buckholts and Rogers, just inside the Milam-Bell County line.
